ABOUT THE SCURRY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

About Us

Scurry Volunteer Fire Department is proud to represent the citizens in our service district. SVFD is contracted with the Kaufman County ESD 5 to provide fire protection within the district and surrounding area if mutual aid is requested. Our aggressive firefighting tactics and knowledgeable advantage put's us on top of the game when it comes to protecting lives and property from fire. SVFD runs major medical incidents within our district that require basic and advanced life support. Our citizens tax dollars don't go to waste with our state-of-the-art apparatus and equipment to help us help you. Check out our apparatus gallery with the button "Apparatus Gallery".

Scurry Volunteer Fire Department runs approximately 400 calls a year. Fifty percent (50%) fire and rescues. Fifty percent (50%) major medicals. Our members train once a month to provide high quality firefighting tactics. Careflite provides our certified emergency medical members with continuing education once a month as well. SVFD is currently certified through Texas Department of State and Health Services as a BLS First Responder so our community is well equipped with knowledgeable EMT and Paramedics that can provide basic life support until an ambulance arrives. Our goal is to save lives and protect property. Our department is well equipped to do so.

Stations and ISO Coverage

Scurry Volunteer Fire Department is composed of two stations. Station 1 is in the city limits of Scurry, which covers most of our district for fire coverage. Station 2 in the city limits of Grays Prairie at the community center which covers the southern portion of our district. Scurry Volunteer Fire Department has an ISO class rating of a 3 and is effective after October 15, 2015. Any property within 5 miles of Scurry fire station will be given an ISO class rating of a 3. All of our fire district is well covered.

ISO rating refers to the fire suppression rating given by Texas Department of Insurance Office for insurance companies to give an estimate on fire insurance coverage. Public protection classification ranges from 1(best) to 10 (worst). An ISO rating of a 3 is very good considering we are 100% volunteer.
